Broomball is a winter sport played in ice arenas and community parks throughout the country. It is a game very similar to hockey in its formation and rules, but also incorporates some soccer strategies. The game is played on a hockey rink with two teams consisting of six players on each side (a goalie, two defensemen and three forwards). Similar to hockey and soccer, the object of the game is to score more goals than the opposing team. A player uses a stick (a shaft with a molded broom-shaped head) to maneuver a six-inch diameter ball up and down the ice. Instead of skates, players wear spongy-soled shoes to gain traction when running on the slippery surface.

Indian Trail, NC Feb 06, 2007 Broomball is here at EXTREME ICE CENTER! Broomball is the most fun you can have on the ice without skates! Following rules very similar to Ice Hockey, broomball players run on the ice, and strike the broomball with a stick (similar to a long lacrosse stick with a solid head) and try to score in a 6X8 goal.

We are currently gearing up for our first Broomball season at EXTREME ICE CENTER, so contact us now to join a team or to start your own team. Congratulations to team HonDoc in their 6-1 victory over Nationwide on Sunday night!! A depleted Nationwide team was no match for a motivated HonDoc squad as pair of goals by Darren Monaco (including the Game Winner), Dan Hogan's first career Carolina Broomball Goal, and a Hat Trick from Scott Jones sealed the victory for HonDoc.Congratulations!!

This Summer we will hold Pickup Broomball on Sunday evenings at 4:30 to 5:30 pm, as well as on Thursday evenings from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm at the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail. Our first Pick up session of the summer will be on Thursday, June 21st at 7:30. There will be no broomball on Father's Day. (I can hear the wives now...sure you play on Mother's Day but off on Father's Day - purely coincidence I assure you!) Helmets and sticks are required. Shoes, gloves, shin guards, knee pads and elbow pads are highly, highly recommended!! The rink is still organizing rental equipment and that has not materialized yet, so you must have your own equipment to participate. All players must be 18 yrs old or older, and broomball is open to both men and women. Cost for pick-up broomball is $10 per person and should be paid at the front desk when you enter the rink.
